How acquiring students works

Students can book a trial with you, for one of your lessons, by paying a small amount to the site (see below how it is calculated). After that first trial you can talk to the student and arrange lessons directly, with no commission or charge from the site.

Step by step

  1. 1

    The student books a trial

The first time a student books with you, they pay ONLY the site, for one trial lesson. How the amount is worked out:

    • Private lessons: the trial lasts only half an hour, so you can get to know each other, and the student pays the site the price of half an hour of your lesson.
    • Drop-in classes: the student pays the site half the price of the class and attends the whole class.
    • Monthly programmes: the trial is for ONE lesson only, never the whole month. The student pays half the price of one lesson (the monthly price divided by the lessons in the month).

There is a minimum of €7, or €5 for monthly programmes. The charge is there to protect you from spam requests.

  2. 2

    Answer the request

You find the requests by pressing the "Trials" button — in the bottom bar on a phone, and in the green "Mine" menu on a computer. Three options. Accept: the trial is booked and the student, with their contact details, joins your roster. Reschedule: propose another time — it counts as answering. Decline: the student gets their money back, as credits or to their card. "Accept" is withdrawn 2 hours before the lesson starts, so nobody is confirmed at the last minute. Answer within 7 days — a request left unanswered is cancelled automatically, the student is refunded, and it is recorded as a non-response, which weighs more heavily than a decline.

  3. 3

    How trials take place

Online trials can be held through DanceLink. The online room is still in beta, so keep an alternative ready in case something does not work as it should. Online lessons that are not trials are run with your own tools only. In-person trials take place at the venue you set when you created the lesson.

  4. 4

    What happens after the trial?

The student is added to your roster and your contact details are exchanged both ways, so from now on you can message each other freely. You agree the schedule and the payment directly with the student — nothing else goes through the site.

  5. 5

Optionally, log lessons in your agenda

If you want, add each agreed lesson to your personal agenda. The quickest way is the + button, then "Add student to lesson"; you can also use the green "Mine" menu → "My calendar". You and the student both get notifications about it, the lesson counts toward your and the student's stats, and it helps you keep track of lessons and payments.

Good to know
  • Only the trial is paid through the platform — there is no commission on anything after it.
  • Answer trial requests inside 12 hours to count as fast, and keep your acceptance rate at 80% or above — both feed where your lessons appear in search.
  • Using the agenda is optional, but it keeps students notified and builds your track record.
